The Ecuadorian Teacher's Day is celebrated on April 13 in honor and tribute to the birth anniversary of Juan María Montalvo Fiallos. Read on and find out who Montalvo was and why this day is celebrated in memory of his birth.
History of Ecuadorian Teacher's Day
As already mentioned, Teacher's Day in Ecuador is celebrated on April 13 as a tribute to the anniversary of the birth of Juan Montalvo who saw the light in 1832. This was a writer, essayist and novelist who had a marked liberal thought for anticlericalism and against authoritarianism.
He published numerous works, including "Seven treatises" and "Chapters that Cervantes forgot", a sequel to "Don Quixote de la Mancha." His works full of attacks on the church and many of the presidents of Ecuador led him to self-exile, however he never lost his momentum and continued writing.
Montalvo was a great executor of teachings that remain valid to this day; his thoughts will always be captured in the mind and in the Ecuadorian history and of many who have studied him and continue to study him.
Although this is the central character of Teacher's Day , this date is also celebrated in tribute to two other greats who worked for the education of our country: Federico González and Luis Felipe Borja. The first was born on April 12, 1844 and the second died on April 12, 1912.
